ALLERGIES
Allergies are one of the most common ailments we see in pets. This
can be an allergy to something floating in the air that they inhale
(pollen, ragweed, grass allergens, etc.), a food, a contact allergen
(grasses or even blankets they are lying on) and even things in
the environment such as dust mites or fleas. Typically our pets
do not exhibit the wheezing, sneezing, runny eyes syndrome that
we do. They usually express their reaction to allergens via their
skin; itching, rubbing, inflammation, change in color of their coat,
etc. The most common complaint far and away is that they are incessantly
scratching. There is so much to say and write about allergies that
I am going to break it into sections and add information as time
goes on. If you don't find the answer to your specific problem here,
please be sure to contact
me and I will try to help. Most of this information pertains
to dogs, but cats can certainly have allergies as well. I will provide
a special section about cats. Look for it here as we develop this
area.
